When the owners might blink

08:35 AM ET 08.21 | Will it be the billionaires or the millionaires who blink first in a lockout? The NHL owners or the hired hands? If we don't have hockey in October or November or into December, we all know the owners win because they're not forking over any salaries. But we also know when the NHL home office will get very, very nervous -- Jan. 1, 2013. "I don't think it's going past the outdoor game," said agent Igor Larionov, the Hall of Famer who now represents Nail Yakupov and was in Edmonton the last few days. With NBC giving the NHL $200 million in that long-term arrangement, the Winter Classic is the league's great advertising baby. ... [It] seems inconceivable that we'll get another season where NHL rinks are dark throughout the winter as it was in 2004.

If his daughter could come reassure me in person I'd be much more satisfied

so, Edmonton Journal read the Columbus Dispatch yesterday and decided to do a rerun on this story...since there are 30 teams, guess we can expect a lot more threads from each city....somebody will blink, but do we really care which side...just get the ice ready and play hockey.....

If you think Canadian papers are gettin content inspiration for hockey stories from American rags, you are smoking too much hockey tape.

...maybe the Sun would.

Well...ya know, no hockey on right?

August 21, 2012  09:37 AM ET

Much as I think the owners cannot be dumb enough to do this again - when the sport is only now starting to become relevant to the casual fan again - I have seldom lost money betting on stupidity.

LMAO. When you're right, you're right. :)

"If we don't have hockey in October or November or into December, we all know the owners win because they're not forking over any salaries."

So the players make millions of dollars - don't they save anything?

August 21, 2012  09:51 AM ET

In other news- Edmontons first overall pick in this years draft injured himself wiping out on a treadmill. Is it wrong that this cracks me up ?

"Will it be the billionaires or the millionaires who blink first in a lockout?"

Obviously a billionaire can outlast any millionaire any time anywhere. Problem is that .... some of our billionaires aren't even millionaires. They're flat broke and, with hat in hand, are standing in line looking for a handout.

The players get their escrow money back I think in October so they will be able to get Kraft Dinner on the table.
