08:08 AM ET 08.22 | Only a few months into the season, the record appeared to be in serious jeopardy. Billy Hamilton of the Reds' Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos stole three bases in the first three innings Tuesday night to reach 146 (between Single-A Bakersfield and Pensacola) and break Vince Coleman's single-season stolen base record of 145, set in 1983. In the bottom of the first inning, Hamilton walked, advanced to second on a throwing error on a pickoff attempt and stole third base. In the bottom of the third, Hamilton singled, stole second (to tie Coleman's record) and stole third (to break the record). In the bottom of the eighth, Hamilton walked again and stole second base for No. 147. Hamilton, 21, started the year at Bakersfield and stole 104 bases in [82 games].

Problem is he plays SS, and the Reds have Zach Cozart who should get a gold glove this year and he's only a rookie. My guess they bring him up next year and try him in CF.

For now, when they make the expanded roster call-ups, he'll make a great pinch-runner.

He's scored from first on a single, scored on a sac fly from second base, pitchers have thrown to second when he was on first and he still beat the throw.

the reds would likely trade him for more prospects why???? because the club doesn't have any spot available plain and simple,,,

I'll wait to see if he can get on base in the majors. That was Coleman's only real challenge. He could steal 3rd even when everyone knew he was going. He couldn't steal 1st base.

The question is, Will he hit big league pitching?
