Hernandez's promise to Seattle

08:10 AM ET 08.22 | Long live the King in Seattle? [Felix Hernandez] gave host Mitch Levy a "promise" that he has nothing to worry about when it comes to the pitcher potentially leaving Seattle. That's good news. Because no matter how much a pitcher says he likes a particular city -- standard fare for any pending free agent in any sport -- it's a different matter when a guy starts promising he's going to stay. Takes that commitment to a whole different level. ... If you're the Mariners, you have to sign Hernandez this winter while he's enamored with the idea of staying here. And it will cost you a pretty penny because he has a great shot at winning his second Cy Young Award ahead of time.

The will get rid of him on their schedule not his!

The mariners need to step up and show their fans and baseball period they are committing themselves in building a team around him for a chance of winning in the future. And also steal some the local headlines away from Carroll.

The Mariners are quietly playing great baseball lately. They've been on a tear since the All-Star break and are currently riding a seven game win streak. They've improved their record to four games below 0.500 and are threatening to pass up the Angels in the West.

It's pretty easy to improve your record when you are 15 games out of first in your division and no pressure on you, but yes they are playing better ball since they traded Ichiro.

Remember the Seattle teams that were loaded offensively? Griffey Jr and friends? Randy Johnson anchoring the starting rotation....they've had some great teams.

Seattle management likes nostalgic fans who harken back to the days of Griffey, Johnson, Arod, and Martinez. Keeps them from thinking about how bad the team has been the past 5 - 6 years, and the perpetual rebuilding cycle they seem to be in.

A win is a win. Maybe not terribly impressive, but for a floundering franchise, it's a step in the right direction.

honors to who deserve honors and the mariners had been doing excellent job nevertheless,,,

if the mariners are able to pass the halos it wouldn't surprise me one bit,,,

August 22, 2012  12:01 PM ET

when a team has everything to win a decent amount of games, when a team has everything what they need in their roster top pitching top lineup, hitters with higher skills hitters who knows how to applied pressure to any tough pitching,, that's why when the angels refuse to win, they deserve nothing but the last place in their division perhaps that could teach this lazy halos a leccion,,

all what the mariners need to do keep winning games and who cares if the halos refuse to win??? anyways the mariners aren't paying any money to the lousy hitters in the angels roster,,,

the mariners need to sign hernandez to another 5 years deal, with the difference that felix its tougher than 5 years ago, means the price has gone up,,,,

the mariners are playing better without ichiro,,, and ichiro its playing much better baseball without the mariners,, wonder why???

randy johnson should apply for a job in the mariners organization who knows he may land the manager's job,,,
