08:04 AM ET 08.23 | Jeff Demps' Olympic silver medal is nice and all, but it can't be traded for an NFL job. [Demps] told reporters that [Wednesday's] practice was the first time he'd touched a football since Florida's last game of the season, in the Gator Bowl on Jan. 2. If you're keeping track, that's a span of 232 days. ... While Patriots fans are excited about Demps' arrival and Fears' first impression of him as a young man is positive, silver medal or not, he'll have to earn everything with his new coach. "I'm not going to go overboard. What he's done has been truly amazing and a great story, but out here, I ain't giving him nothing!," [running backs coach Ivan Fears] said, mostly serious. "He's going to earn everything he gets from us."

They haven't had a lot of success with young speed guys over the years.

So,that Silver medal isn't a free ticket to success in the NFL and Demp is going to have to earn a roster spot on the Pats, Not really surprising for most fans....

All of us in Patriot Nation would love to have another Kevin Faulk, but I don't think Demps is going to be that guy. For one thing, Faulk had size.

At least he has a football background. Maybe some other team will pick him up or the Pats will keep their options open.

Likely candidate for the practice squad, until he shows he's ready for the NFL, or not.

New England is a good place for him, if they let him stick around. There's not a lot of responsibility on the running backs, so he would get some time to develop.
I'm guessing they'll keep him. If they felt happy with their other marginal RBs, why bother to bring him in?

But Im sure you remember that Faulk didnt come into the league with size..he was a small speedster in college, much like Demps. As a Florida fan I'll tell you that Demps will run hard for his size and the guy is tough. Hope he works out for you up there..
