Pressure dialed way up for Brown

08:10 AM ET 08.23 | Last season, there was a lockout and the transition to a new head coach, but Mike Brown and the Lakers are saddled with something else this offseason: Expectation. [The Lakers imported] Steve Nash from Phoenix, and since have added Dwight Howard, Antawn Jamison, and Jodie Meeks, while re-signing Jordan Hill and holding on to Pau Gasol. Debate if you'd like where the offseason leaves L.A. relative to other powerhouses, but one thing is apparent: The Lakers are again elite. ... Brown knows the scrutiny he faced last season is nothing in comparison to what awaits this year, and he's fine with it. "Everybody says that -- expectations, expectations, pressure, pressure, pressure. Pressure to me occurs if you're not prepared, and we'll be prepared."

The Lakers must make the finals for MB to have job security.

Mike Brown isn't a good coach. The Lakers have enough talent to win despite that, but he's not outcoaching Popovich, Thibodeau, Adelman or Scott Brooks. That's all that I have to say.

They better be prepared enough to win the title. If not...out with MB and get Phil on line 1.

FIXED or else I can see phil slinking his way in for a chance to get his mitts on this squad

I don't think there is ANY chance that Jim Buss hires Phil Jackson.

really?if this team gets bounced, you don't think kobe says- 'jimmy....get phil on the horn"

I think that Jim Buss HATES Phil Jackson, and has done everything that he could to get remove Phil Jackson's voice from the locker room (short of sending out Kobe). I understand that the Lakers have sown that they will do what it takes to get a ring, I just don't think that Jim Buss is willing to do that.

I think Mike Brown realizes that anything short of a title will cost him his job. He should be safe during the season, as long as the Lakers stay in the top 3 in the West.

If Lakers get knocked off, Brown will lose his job and other team changes may happen as well.

Agree. Buss may object to Phil, but if Brown is fired, is there another coach that can make them instant contenders (which is what LA will be looking for)?

This is the Lakers last hurrah before the CBA luxury tax starts to really hurt the teams profitability and their stars talent decline (Kobe, Pau) starts to accelerate.

Phil is done coaching. The guy can barely walk any more.

QUOTE(#12):

Mike D'Antoni might be someone they look into especially since Nash loved playing for him and although he was a bust in N.Y. since it was in constant flux he'd be someone who has some cred with Kobe, Gasol due to being asst. coach at the Olympics.

Yeah, if Brown is out, then D'Antoni may be the guy. The criteria will be someone that can get them the title in what I think is Kobe's last year. It may be MD, but I'm sure Phil will at least get a phone call.

Good eyes on MD being an assistant for this year's Olympic squad. A thankless job that is so important to winning. Assistants are almost invisible.

Nothing Less Than A Title Will Be A Failure, Bro.

This team is loaded with a great mix of intellect and raw talent. Scheme is important but Brown will get a title this year no matter what schemes he employs. Hopefully his title comes at the expense of LBJ.

Looks like DJ took one for the team again. Mods must hate the man.

The Mods have finally wised up to who the instigator is. Now they have one more to get.

Pressure either busts pipes or creates a diamond....which one are you Mike?
