Baker stumping for Hamilton call-up

Dusty Baker was duly impressed with Billy Hamilton breaking Vince Coleman's all-time minor league stolen base record of 145. Hamilton was at 147 steals after stealing four bases in the doubleheader for Double-A Pensacola Tuesday. "I know the guys who records he broke," Baker said. "I know Vince Coleman. I know Donnel Nixon. That's a tremendous feat." ... Baker again hinted that Hamilton could be with big league club in September. "It's been discussed," Baker said. "It's not my decision. You've got a lot [of factors] here. Once you put him on the roster, you've got to keep him on the roster ... We've asked about him big time. But there's more factors."

If they're waiting until the September call ups, let's hope the Reds don't lose a couple of vital games between now and then because Dusty didn't have this guy available!

Until Hamilton can injure himself in the stupidest way possible (e.g. getting caught in the rain tarp) he's got a long way to go to catch Coleman.

Your are right on it davered, the Reds are not about to use a valuable option on this young man. Some of the guys commenting here don't get it, the Reds are in first, don't mess with the chemistry they have now, and let him start out at Triple A next year, get more experience, and then if he is doing well then bring him up.

seen him its one thing,, to have him in your roster its a totally different thing, the speed elemt can cause tremendous turmoil in the reds offense distraction its too much for the pitchers and this guy should make those pitchers to work deeper in their counts,,,
