Frustration boiling over for Sveum

08:14 AM ET 08.23 | In addition to firing six scouts Wednesday, the Cubs also endured some critical comments from Dale Sveum. [Since July 31], the Cubs are hitting .216 with a .287 on-base percentage and a .347 slugging percentage, averaging 3.4 runs per game. The team earned-run average is 5.20, and they've been outscored 111-72. [Sveum] considers himself a patient man. But even for Sveum, watching this brand of baseball has been difficult. "Obviously, we went in completely the opposite direction," Sveum said before Wednesday's game in Milwaukee. "I'm not going to lie to you and say it doesn't get frustrating to lose and be behind in ballgames constantly to where the closer has, I think, three save opportunities the month of August."

You knew it when you took the job the Cubs had a long way to go and patience is the name of the game. Your Cubbies are thinking about one thing now, the end of the season, and getting my golf swing in tune.

Indeed. Sveum will have a job next year. Valentine won't, although he will get a years salary as a lovely parting gift.

It happens. It has to happen. You've got to tear down and rebuild from scratch occasionally to get good. The Cubbies coasted by on mediocre for decades. This is painful, but it is the only way to go.

I'd give Theo the benefit of the doubt atleast for a couple of years...
But I doubt Mr. Sveum will be around to see the results... I'd give him until mid-next year...
Francona anyone?

What the heck was Sveum expecting when he signed with the Cubbies? Even the biggest long-shot Louie at Hialeah wouldn't put a fin on the Cubbies improving anytime soon.
