Boston's sellout streak mocked

08:15 AM ET 08.23 | On Tuesday, Boston recorded No. 776 in its Fenway Park sellout streak. The Red Sox and all their fans should be proud of how well the team has been supported over the years. Now end it. ... It's certainly not a streak of having every seat full. Anybody who has been to a game at Fenway this season knows that. The streak has become something to ridicule, not to be proud of. Newspaper stories now include phrases like "an announced crowd of 37,794" because we don't really believe the Sox. The streak is routinely mocked on on Twitter and elsewhere on the web. There have been "sellouts" this season where the park was 65 percent full. Entire rows were empty in right field.

Stick a fork in them.

Stick two forks in them and smother them in beans!

What next?

August 23, 2012  08:55 AM ET

The fans should do what the players have done for months...go on vacation.

August 23, 2012  08:57 AM ET

So now the teams are cheating too? Yup, that's baseball.

Cheer up Red Sox fans, the Yankees are fading fast and soon enough will be the focus of failure for this year. .500 ball since the all star game, and any left hander can make them look like little kids.

August 23, 2012  09:13 AM ET

It only holds 38K seats?

In Boston????? How many freakin' people live there?

They should be ashamed the sell-out streak is only 776.

Well that does make me feel a little better, thanks 50.

This "sellout" myth is just another indicator of the fundamental dishonesty of the ownership of the Sox.
They are clueless in their PR and community relations, and try to keep telling us fans what to believe, in the expectation that somehow we are stupid enough to listen to them and believe!
Just because they sell the tickets ro agency re-sellers they claim a sellout; if they want to report the actual gate count, how many came to the games, we might listen to them.
The credibility gap between the owners and players and the fans is growing daily. Beginning to remind this old timer more and more of the later years of the Yawkey ownership.

That and a 13-3 run. The starting pitching has really come around and they are finally scoring some runs.
