There would hardly be anyone on the field. Baseball has always been a game of cheaters, and always will be.

By my account, Matt Kemp was last year's NL MVP. At least until he gets busted too.

Is the extra $5-10 mil/year you could wind up with worth the risk THAT MUCH to these guys?

Interesting that the last two guys to get caught are former Yankees. But I'm sure that's just a coincidence.

Finally someone has the balls to say something about Derek Jeter and possible HGH use......I've read a zillion comments from all posters on FN about how guys aren't supposed to be getting better as they get older.....The way Jeter reacted you may actually have to wonder....usually he just blows this stuff off ...but these comments actually seem like they struck a nerve.....

Suspensions don't seem to deter the juicers. Hit them where it counts: In addition to suspensions, getting caught will void any existing contract, and offending players will be liable to PAY BACK to their employers the previous year of salary (including bonuses, etc). After all, I think the case could be made that it was "earned" under false pretenses. Don't just take away future earnings, make 'em pay back previous earnings. And if a few of them end up immediately bankrupted and out of the game, maybe it will start to get their attention.

How does the NFL get off on any steroid scandals, yet MLB takes the brunt of the PR damage? I remember reading an article in the Wall Street Journal how the Greenbay Packers trainer was handing out flyers when the players would be tested for Steroids so they would have 24 hours to take another drug to mask it so they would come up clean. If you look at the NFL players, I believe 60% of the league is juiced as these guys are huge today compared to 20 years ago! Steroids is a problem in all sports, but for some reason only MLB is the only one who really takes the wrath from the fans.

Oh come on, when you look at Braun's defense he put up arguing he was innocent and then look at the stat's he's putting up this year (when more eyes will be on him to be 'clean') he's validated his innocence. People need to give Braun a break. He's never bulked up tremendously at all during his career (and if he was guilty he would have looked different given how much was in his system) and he's never had any kind of big surges in stats like Melky/Colon/Clemens/ARod/Bonds.

Truth be told, I think Braun's sample got mixed up with another Brewer who looks more like your prototypical roid user - Rickie Weeks.

You're believing Skip Bayless though, that's your problem. Jeter's "surge" in numbers isn't because he's hitting the ball harder or doing anything where he physically outperforms his younger self, he's just making smarter hitting decisions.

Obviously you have to be a little skeptical given the era, but Jeter's simply playing the game smarter and he's probably just trying to make a push for Pete Rose's record.

As for suspension of PED use: Suspended for life for first time offense. If gambling is a lifetime suspension, why shouldn't the use of PED's? Guys like Melky and Colon are rolling the dice that they won't get caught in hopes a big free agent contract and if they get caught it is only a 50 game suspension. Suspend these guys for life, and they may think twice about rolling the dice on their livelyhood.

Here's an idea - when someone fails a test, his entire team has to be tested and gets put on a frequent testing schedule. That adds more pressure not to cheat, since doing so and getting caught becomes a hassle for all of your teammates.
