Another fan-manufactured mania in Denver

08:02 AM ET 08.24 | John Fox isn't much for hype, which has again taken hold in Denver. After rushing out to buy Peyton Manning jerseys at $99.99, Broncomaniacs are higher on the local NFL team than [Fox] is. Fans feed the Super Bowl frenzy. Fox can only hope he doesn't get eaten alive by it. "I've been of the school of understate, overproduce," Fox said Thursday. "We're obviously pleased to have Peyton, yet we're still trying to get ready as a football team, and we're definitely not there yet." There's a disconnect between this warm optimism Broncomaniacs have rarely enjoyed in the past decade and the colder reality of how much work Fox has left to do. Right now, Denver is nothing more than an average football team.

$99.99? No way, our china friend on here will have that jersey up for $39.99 in a week and throw in a Hardy bikini for free.

I think we should give John Fox a lot of credit for what he did with that team last year. He switched from a conventional offense that wasn't working, brought in the most unconventional quarterback the league has seen in a long time, and completely changed the playcalling, all in mid-season over the span of a couple of weeks.

I still want to know if he has a stone altar in his back yard where he sacrifices goats.

I don't want to see Peyton Manning or John Fox in a Hardy bikini.

Glad to see someone finally admit that Denver, even with Peyton Manning, is really just an average team. There are some players to build around, but they aren't an elite team and have a killer schedule this year.

It's Good that the fans of Colordo have something to Cheer about!!!! Good luck Guys!

August 24, 2012  09:52 AM ET

Peyton doesn't look very good in preseason, what he had in Indy with Marvin, Dallas, and Reggie was pretty special and you can't just plug new guys and expect to work the same.

I think folks have underrated the talent he had around him in Indy, and have overrated him a little bit.

If Manning goes down and Denver signs Favre, what will his jerseys go for?

August 24, 2012  09:57 AM ET

Fox said all the right things to the media, Denver got to be the favorite to win the AFC West and make the playoffs. If they don't achieve this goal this year the hounds will be chasing Fox out of town.

Denver is worse off than last year.

They're still in the AFC West, though. They took the division with an 8-8 record last year.
