Girardi: White Sox heckler crossed line

09:33 AM ET 08.25 | Joe Girardi said getting swept three games by the White Sox in Chicago had nothing to do with him snapping Wednesday night at a heckling fan who called the Yankees manager a "bum" on his way out of U.S. Cellular Field. "My wife and kids were there, it was terrible," the Yankees manager said before last night's 3-1 victory over the Indians. Girardi told the heckler to shut up so he could do a postgame press conference and took several steps toward the man. Girardi said he moved toward the man in order to get a security guard who was lounging on a golf cart several feet away to do something and had no intention of putting his hands on the man. "I would never touch someone," Girardi said. "I never hit anyone in my life, I don't think I will start at 47." Even though the heckler didn't use profanity, Girardi thought he was over the line. "I'm going to protect my family," Girardi said. "I don't think kids should be subjected to that."

It you don't want them to hear criticism of you, don't bring them to the ballpark. It's that easy.

When I was a Boy, I yelled out to Bill Skowren, Hey Bill can I have your autograph, what I didn't know was tha I was standing Next to His Mon Who said He Moose, The Kid wants your autograph, get your butt over here, I said to her that's no nice that you called him Moose, she looked at me and smiled and said That's his knick name he doesn't mind, I'm his Mom! Needless to say I got the autograph as well as Jerry Colemans. I thought How can a mother call her son a Moose? I went home and asked my Mom, she said when you get older you will understand, everyone would have laughed at her if she called him God!!

I think the fan was confused--the Brooklyn Bums moved to LA and are now called the Dodgers. Girardi needs to lighten up, but at the same time,---he didn't even punch the guy. Not much of a story here.

Honestly, this time of year in a pennant race and your team not hitting Joe, the "pucker" factor got you. It is normal. Drop the wife/kid thing or like kenosha said, leave em home.

You know you are the manager of one of the most hated teams in baseball. Losing the three games to the Sox and the fan name calling made you snap for a minute, but good for you you got your senses back and went on with your interview.
