How bad is Prince Amukamara's injury?

09:45 AM ET 08.25 | Prince Amukamara has been fighting his way back from injury since his second day in the NFL. This was going to be his shot to show everyone why he was a first-round draft pick. That's why the sight of him riding off the field on a cart on Friday night was so sickening to his teammates. He may still get that chance this season. It just might not happen for a while. Amukamara, the Giants' first-round pick in the 2011 draft, suffered a high right ankle sprain in the first quarter of the 20-17 loss to the Chicago Bears at Giants Stadium. That's an injury that typically keeps a player out for anywhere from three to eight weeks. Tom Coughlin was pinning his hopes on the team doctor's initial diagnosis that the sprain was considered "mild."

underachiever
give him another ice bath and then let's talk

Good luck Prince, Hope it's a mild sprain, even so those things can nag all season...

Some guys are just always hurt. He may be one of those ( see Terrell Thomas). Hosley is the one they need to help out. I would hit those wires hard after the Turk does his thing the next few days because Johnson is no answer. Heck, at least Coe is in the vicinity when the receiver catches the ball.

Too many guys getting hurt in pre-season. What's going to happen when they're playing for real?

You mean it's not for real?

This is one of the things you hope doesn't happen to your team in the preseason.

Hopefully this won't be as bad as it looks.

The Prince is a great kid, good luck fellow Husker.

Rolle will end up playing CB at least for a while.

Wasn't it injuries to the defense, especially the with the DB's, that derailed the Giants the season after they won the Super Bowl last time? Looks like the trend is repeating itself.

"yep" to the "nag all season" part; I hope it didn't happen when his team-mates threw him in the water.

If he can't play then.......NEXT!

August 25, 2012  01:52 PM ET

I remember when the Giants drafted this kid. He was supposed to be the next Nnamdi Asomugha.

Now he's just some injury prone benchwarmer who JPP slaps around for fun.

August 25, 2012  03:07 PM ET

JPP needs to apologize and start acting like a leader. Save the beatdowns for the teams they're scheduled to play, and don't put the guy(s) you will be depending on to make the tackles you miss or make the plays you can't in harm's way....
I really thought he was smarter than that.
I'll bet Coughlin has addressed this in the locker room, in short order, now that they've embarrassed themselves in front of the whole country.

The NFl and Players Association could help their players, give some relief to paying customers, people who watch the games on tv, if they would do like the CFL, go to two preseason games, and to a 18 game regular season.

The G-Men kicked the bears brains in during the first half, when the 1st team was in.... once again, too much emphasis on the final score of a preseason game--- Eli was fabulous!
