Patriots may run more to keep Tom Brady healthy

10:06 AM ET 08.25 | Watching Tom Brady become a tackling dummy for the Buccaneers last night was not anyone's idea of fun. And just when you think it couldn't get worse, his best friend on the night -- running back Stevan Ridley -- was one of the guys who nearly got him killed by missing his block on an oncoming blitzer. They keep saying it's going to get better. Earlier in the week, offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia painted a wonderfully optimistic picture with the glass being half-full, and getting fuller with respect to his beleaguered offensive line. The Pats just might have to run the ball much more than planned, because that was the only way Brady didn't get pounded last night. And, it was the best and most fruitful way for them to produce a scoring drive when Brady was in the game.

It's a good way to avoid paying the contract, back end it get their legs or neck broken then cut em before you have to pay em.

It doesn't look good for NE this year. There may be some coaching and game plan magic that fixes this once the games count, but the teams with elite front sevens (Giants, Ravens despite injuries, 49'ers, Detroit, Pittsburgh, maybe even Cincinnati) all have to be loving what they have been seeing so far.
