12:33 PM ET 08.25 | Mo Isom learned that she'd lost out on her shot at history Friday but she won a large measure of respect and admiration within and without the LSU football community. Isom, the star women's soccer goalie and 2011 homecoming queen last year, was denied a spot on the football team after trying out as a placekicker Tuesday and Wednesday. LSU Coach Les Miles made the announcement at his post-practice briefing with the media saying that Isom was the "fourth or fifth best kicker" there and that he couldn't afford a spot for her. "We had a short meeting today," Miles said. "(She's a) real quality person, the right style of athlete to come in after four years of playing to be a part. Frankly, she kicked well. The good news is our top three filed goal and extra point people are really, really strong."

So I'll be the first to say it.
This is not surprising, as the competition for LSU placekicker is really tough....afterall, it is the most important part of their offense.

The team was worried about changing the name of the goalposts to bedposts........NEXT!

I wonder what impact this would have on Title IV if she was given a spot?

My question is why these woman even try out for men sports, knowing all along men are much stronger than they are. But on second I guess it is nice to have your picture in SI and people talking about you.

I don't know if a young woman could safely be out on the field of play in a college football game today, even in the role of a field goal kicker, and definitely not as a placekicker on special teams. I fear there'd be at least one headhunter out there looking to make a trophy out of her hat.

Unfortunately, you're probably right about this part.
