Ian Poulter rips Bethpage Black's greens

10:55 AM ET 08.26 | On Saturday at the Barclays, Bethpage Black's sun-baked greens were about as smooth and welcoming as your average Wal-Mart parking lot, and the players' scores showed it. The average player putted more than 30 times in his round, and three-putts were the norm. The players groused about it, no one getting more demonstrative than Ian Poulter. Shortly after finishing a nasty round of 76 that left him tied for 53rd, Poulter took to his chosen medium, Twitter, and fired off a beauty of a tweet: "The worst course setup I have ever played in 13 years on tour. They have ruined what is a great course, greens like concrete (and) stupid pins (setups)." Interviewed afterward as he was headed to his car, Poulter didn't relent a bit. As transcribed by Golf Channel's Jason Sobel, Poulter vented: "I've got to tell you, they [screwed] up today," he said. "Royally [screwed] up. Look at how many guys have had a bad day, and there's a lot of guys that had a bad day. You know, (hole) eight, especially, is the worst I've ever seen on Tour. Eight was worse than Shinnecock. How about that? How about that for a statement? They have lost it. "There's supposed to be cloud cover, there wasn't cloud cover. I don't want to use that as an excuse. Fact is, the greens have barely got double-digit moisture in them. That is borderline unplayable on a golf course that simply plays as the longest course on Tour, pretty much. Right? Par 71. It's the longest 71 we play. So therefore you're going in with even more club than any other course we play. Elevated greens. Rock hard. That is an absolute recipe for disaster. You can quote me on all that stuff."

19 guys broke par yesterday Ian. Obviously they had it figured out.

Virtually everyone who broke par did so in the morning, when the greens still had some overnight moisture. Once the sun dried out the greens, the scores were dramatically different.

You play the course that you've signed up to play on, so if you don't like it don't play there! Unlike the other major professional sports (you know, the ones where you can't ride around on a cart or tee off then light up a cigarette afterwards) where the players (actual athletes) don't have the luxury of choosing the ice surface, turf or infield dirt to play on, here the "athletes" can skip whatever tournament and go on to the next one where the surface is more to their liking. These overpaid, whining prima donnas need to man up and get on with it.

I've heard Poulter spends about as much time on Twitter as he does on the golf course.

Guess the PGA can't host every tournament on a tricked up resort course so the cut line is under par on Friday night. Really kind of fun to watch the greatest players in the world struggle over short putts and sand shots.

Yup and the quality of his game reflects all the hard work he puts in. 1 freakin PGA Tour win? Who the hell cares what this pooftah has to say?

Sadly, no one cares about the Fed Ex Cup. No one can understand the scoring, and it is played at the worst time of the year as Football Season approaches. The PGA Season should start in late January between Conference Championships and the Superbowl, and the Ryder Cup/Presidents Cup should be played the Weekend before Labor Day Weekend. The PGA Season is too long, and nobody is going to care who is the 2012 Fed Ex Champion 5 years from now. The sport markets itself with the Majors, so thats all the players and most fans really care about during the year along with events like The Players Championship, Pebble Beach, Arnold & Jacks Tournaments.

As long as everyone plays the same golf course (Which I assume they did) then shut up and go back home Ian. You are dismissed.......

I remember reading an interview with Ian about 4-5 years ago. He said something to the effect that when he got his game where he wanted it there would be him and Tiger and then everybody else . It looks like he got his wish, although perhaps not in the way he intended. If it wasn't for the goofy clothes and spiky hair, no one would know who this doofus is.

I'm tired of hearing people complain about the courses they have to play. It is what it is. You aren't the only one who has to play it. They all do... suck it up and play. Sounds like sour grapes to me.

Tell the Guy to eat a frickin pork chop or something will ya ! If he used a long putter it would look like he was hugging his twin Brother on the green.

I heard about these cry baby golfers complaining about the course being toooo haaaaard. Last time I checked...low score wins. So if your +20, and have the lowest score, you win. So what's the problem EGO boy?
