08:06 AM ET 08.27 | Basketball fans in Sacramento can, along with their mayor, dare to dream. [Johnson], the former NBA All-Star point guard and Cal star, was the grand marshal for Sunday's IndyCar Series GoPro Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma. ... Even at the track, Johnson couldn't escape the subject of the Sacramento Kings and their future. With another round of rumors circulating regarding the Kings' new destination, this time Virginia Beach, Johnson indicated that the city would do what it could to keep the team in town, with or without the current owners, the Maloof family. "We have fought very hard to keep our team in Sacramento, and we've been successful for the past two years," he said. "We're not giving up, but ultimately, it's up to the Maloofs."

That used to be one of the loudest arenas I've ever heard. Too bad they've been bad for so long now.

Move this team to San Diego, and play the games outdoors. Hell, it would have to be better than what's going on in Sactown now.

Actually, people love the Kings. However, whenever ownership is duplicitous and scheming, as the Maloofs have been, it turns fans off to the team. The Maloofs have destroyed the empire built by their father (they even sold the beer distributorship they inherited) and have a vice grip on the King's collective throat, determined not to lose them, too. Had the NBA not orchestrated a sLaker win in the 2001-02 NBA Western Conference Finals, a stadium would have been built and this article wouldn't exist.
