QB race heating up at USC

08:18 AM ET 08.27 | With Matt Barkley firmly entrenched as the leader of what many expect to be an excellent offense, the QB race for No. 2 is close to being settled by Lane Kiffin. [At USC, the] closest Kiffin has come to an impactful quarterback decision was a year ago, when he named Cody Kessler as Barkley's backup. Kessler ended up redshirting, as did his primary competitor, Max Wittek (Mater Dei High). Flash forward to today, and Kiffin is in the same spot: He must choose between Kessler and Wittek, classmates who have performed at an equally high level in their quest to fill in for Barkley and eventually succeed him. Kiffin did not reveal the winner after Sunday afternoon's practice or in the depth chart released a few hours later.

The 2nd string competition?

SC doesn't need a backup qb, as mild mannered Barkley is actually Superman..(per ESPN)

With another D player ruled ineligible, I think they need to worry more about depth on that side of the ball

Considering smaller numbers due to scholly limitations, grades, injuries, legal troubles, etc, does anyone think we might see some guys playing both ways at certain times? Receviers/DBs, OLs/DLs, etc.

And before any smart arse pops off, yes, I'm old enough to remember players going both ways.

Misleading headline when the article is actually in the "who cares?" neck of the woods.

Doesn't Matt have a bad knee? Better hope he stays healthy, the Irish are coming to town at seasons end. You remember what happened last time at the Coliseum when Barkley was out.

He started the last half of last season. He was not involved in spring workouts because (for us) this is old news. Looks like another one of your starters enjoy the suds a little too much Van. Try not to stub your toe the first two weeks ok???
