Why K.C. picked Quinn over Stanzi

08:07 AM ET 08.28 | Brady Quinn, a former first-round pick who had once been considered the savior of a franchise, wasn't going to be doing cartwheels over officially being named the Chiefs' top backup to Matt Cassel. ... Even if Quinn wasn't impressed, it was big news for the Chiefs, though not a surprise. Quinn has more experience than his competition, Ricky Stanzi, and outplayed him during the preseason. Coach Romeo Crennel cited Quinn's experience as the big factor. Quinn, a first-round pick by Cleveland in 2007, started 12 games for the Browns over three seasons. Stanzi, a rookie last season, has never played in a regular-season NFL game. "That's the main thing I feel like will benefit us the most," Crennel said.

Quinn has more experience being a failure in the NFL than Stanzi.

Many talking heads are picking this team to win the West... A few are even saying Super Bowl.
This team isn't going anywhere...

There is actually a fair amount of talent on this team, and Arrowhead can be one of the most difficult stadiums for visiting teams to win in. They are definitely a threat to win the West.
After that, there are a group of teams back East that will slug it out to see who goes to the Super Bowl.

Why would anyone pick this team? Have they done anything significant to improve themselves? Denver is the only team in the AFC West which has made any significant upgrades.
Third or fourth in the AFC West for the Chiefs.

QB is a problem in K.C., regardless of how you rank them. True, Cassell has had more success than Quinn before either came to KC but the gap in skills between T. Brady and M. Cassell is greater than that between Cassel and either Quinn or Stanzi.

They won the West two years ago, and their 'improvements' this year are getting back all the players who got hurt last year. Cassel is the weakest link, but this team can work around that by running the football when Jamal Charles is healthy.
Denver has a killer schedule this year and their biggest weakness is stopping the run, especially if they get forced into nickel coverage by the offense's formations. New England gave two textbook examples on how to beat Denver last year and I'm guessing some other teams noticed. The Broncos are betting the farm Ty Warren, Keith Vickerson and Derek Wolfe can plug up the middle, or Peyton will be standing on the sidelines for long periods of time.
I'm hopeful for Denver, they are definitely going the right way, but there are still some big question marks there.

They showed how to beat Tebow. The defense they employed last year wouldn't work against Peyton Manning.
Denver had success with a run-first offense for Tebow because their O-line, augmented by backs who weren't carrying the ball, were pushing defenses around. All Bill Belichick did was replace his normal D-line with a bunch of jumbos who couldn't be moved.

Wasn't a hard choice at all. Went like this: "Call it."..."Tails."..."Tails it is, Quinn you stay."

Romeo forgets that part of the reason why he lost his first head coaching job was the play of Quinn.
