08:11 AM ET 08.28 | There may be a place in the NBA this season for Brian Scalabrine, after all -- though perhaps not as a player. According to sources familiar with the situation, the fan favorite is in line to join Tom Thibodeau's coaching staff for the upcoming season, CSNChicago.com has learned. Since former Bulls assistant coach Rick Brunson departed for a position with the Charlotte Bobcats in the offseason, the organization has had an opening and while the likes of former Magic assistant Steve Clifford was considered--the member of Stan Van Gundy's staff in Orlando recently accepted a job with the Lakers, where he'll be reunited with All-Star center Dwight Howard -- it appears that Scalabrine is now a front-runner for the spot.

This thread should have read, "Classic underachiever makes good."

Usually, guys like "Scal" become great coaches. What they lack in atheletics they excel with thoughts. He can see the game the way he would like to play it but can't physically seem to move there, however, he can put his thoughts into the body of a guy that can achieve his thoughts with the movement he lacked.

Someday Brian Scalabrine will be on one knee in front of an NBA bench in a black suit cheering on a championship team and we will realize we are seeing the successor to Phil Jackson emerging before our eyes.
