Angels chasing historic awards sweep

08:13 AM ET 08.28 | The Angels, who as a team woke up Tuesday morning 4.5 games back in the wild card race, sit on the verge of history thanks to a pair of individual performances. No team has ever swept the Rookie of the Year, MVP and Cy Young awards in the same season. But Angels phenom Mike Trout has the ROY locked up and is the MVP frontrunner in many eyes heading toward September. Angels ace Jered Weaver held favored status in the Cy Young race for awhile but is now just one worthy contender in a crowded field. "It'd be great," Weaver said of being part of a historic awards sweep this fall. ... [The MVP race] looks like a two-party race between Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera and Trout.

It is awful hard to get voters to vote for players whose team doesn't make the playoffs. If true MVP will go to Cabrera, and Rookie of the Year to Trout.

Things are not as cut-and-dried as The Orange County Register hopes for. I would say Trout as ROY is a lock but the other two awards are up in the air still.

They can put all of those awards on top of their TVs as they watch other teams in the playoffs.

It seems that just about every year now in baseball some wild card team runs the gauntlet....NEXT!

So much cash spent to win awards and not pennants or Titles. Someone's priorities out of whack perhaps????

Trout has been amazing and, at this point, should win the ROY and MVP. Whether he will or not remains to be seen.
Weaver, on the other hand, is slipping on his CY bid. Currently, I wouldn't put him in the top three and, if you consider how the pitchers are trending, he could be out of the top five shortly.

There's no way Trout is the MVP...Rookie of the Year, hands down.

the Cy young will not go to weaver... I can honestly say that king felix and justin verlander have a better chance of winning it...
Trout hands down should win the ROY but def not the MVP... MVP is just that the most valuable player... He might be the MVP for the Angels but there are other players such as Cabrera and hamilton that deserve it more. And seriously if an angel wins anyother award other then the ROY there will be alot of pissed off fans and players, for the simple fact that they wont even make the playoffs...
10 games back of the rangers and 4.5 games from a wildcard.... Only a month left might want to start playing some baseball..... The rangers have the indians and the royals after the rays so yall might want to start playing some fundamental baseball before ya find yourselves 17+ games behind hahahahah
GOOD LUCK hahaha

sweet! Got in before Alacran's ramblings.... As much of a disappointment as the Angels have been this season, Weaver and Trout put together a solid season. I'm still hanging onto the slight chance that the Angels can get that Wild Card spot and do something in this post season. They Bullpen is doing their best to prevent that though. Without making it to the playoffs, Trout will only get the ROY.

Def not? Don't get carried away. He's still in the top 3 hitting for average, has more than double the HR's as Cabrera, combined better power numbers, over 40 stolen bases and is a monster in the outfield.
