St. Louis: Union more 'together' this time around

08:21 AM ET 08.28 | Like most labor disputes, this one, in the eyes of Marty St. Louis -- who's nearing 40 and likely to look overseas in the event of a lockout -- is years in the making. The problem, St. Louis said, is the current CBA, which cut player salaries 24 percent after the 2004-05 lockout, "was (the owners') deal. And now that deal is not good anymore, so it's hard. It's hard to negotiate like that." St. Louis stressed the union is "very strong, together, more than last time, no doubt about that. ... I believe in deadlines, and I think a lot is going to happen in the next month. Hopefully, we get a deal done." If not, St. Louis said he expects to be playing in Europe by mid October.

At one time I was part of AFSCME in Pennsylvania. I swear their motto was: Every man for himself. It was the sorriest excuse for a union I ever saw.

It is hard to side with the owners on this 1..they got everything they wanted on the last CBA....but i knew there was something wrong with it when the cap floor got so high...they should do a fixed 5 year 1...say 62 million cap and 45 million floor...keep those #'s for 5 years...THAT should keep the salaries in check.

The players didn't lose entirely. They kept their guaranteed contracts, had free agency reduced by 4 years that was a big plus for the players and a waiver rule change that also helped them.
I can't see the players signing off on a cap that doesn't move when revenues are going up.
