08:25 AM ET 08.28 | Joe Thornton and Sergei Samsonov share a unique history, one that includes playing together after a heralded Boston draft 15 years ago, which makes a possible reunion worth following. [Samsonov] is gearing up to return to the NHL in 2012-13. And he just may be reunited with his former captain, with whom he still exchanges text messages with every once in awhile. "I've been friends with Sergei, we got drafted in the same year in Boston (1997) and we've had a great relationship. I still send him a text here and there and he sends me one, so yeah, we still have a relationship," Thornton said. "He's a very skilled guy, and doesn't shy away from physical play. He's a very, very solid player, and if he comes to camp here it would be great for us."

What Thornton should have said. "He's a very skilled guy, and doesn't shy away from physical play any more than I do".

Of course Samsonov is about as tall as a garden gnome so he can be excused for avoiding the corners and contact with the big boys. Joe? Well, not so much.

If Sergei is coming to training camp tell him to save the airfare and just hop aboard a slow Steamer. He has lots of time.

In related news, Bruins fans everywhere erupted in uncontrollable fits of laughter. No injuries were reported, other than mild diaphragm strains.

Samsonov for his size is built like a tank....creative as hell and speed to burn...not much of a slap shot tho.

Can't disagree with that, but a physical player he ain't. After two years in Boston he proved to be a bit of a one trick pony. He wasn't big enough to go up ice through the middle and the d-men learned not to bite on that particular fake forcing to go him wide. He became less and less effective with each passing game.

Harry is right. If a book is ever written on one trick lazy under achieving ponies Penner would take up the first 3 chapters.

He'll have better luck flying Tupolevs without incidents over the next two years in mother Russia than playing in the NHL this year.
