08:14 AM ET 08.30 | Joe Montana didn't serve up the most incendiary remarks aimed at Notre Dame Wednesday -- hello, Allen Pinkett -- but Montana's name likely carries more weight. [In an online chat], Montana was asked for his impressions of first-time starter Golson. Wrote Montana: "Kelly can't figure out what he wants. Every one of his QBs that he has, he claims is his next star, but he doesn't last long with him. (Golson) is probably the least talented thrower that they have, so maybe they're looking to run the ball with him." [Brian Kelly] was presented with the quote at his noon press conference on Wednesday. "Joe Montana is an icon," he responded. "He's entitled to his opinion about our football team. So I think that's probably all I'd say about that."

That is an excellent job of embracing the history by a head coach. "Entitled" hmmmm sounds like they will not be having beers n brats for lunch together!

Kelly's statement translated-"Joe Montana can go fu#k himself."

Cheap shot by Joe, who is still upset that his son didn't become an ND quarterback starter. The kid transfered to Montana State, not even a FBS school and didn't show much there either, but Joe still feels he didn't get treated right at ND.
As the poster in #5 above said, "this is why Joe is not a coach..."!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh, Joe is just marking the end of the season of false hope. As an icon, he is entitled to call the play.

Speaking of today, good luck to one and all. May everyone's fave march to glory on the field.

One score and 4 head coaches ago, Domers arrived at this weekend with anticipation.

Kelly has accountants counting the donut crumbs on Weis's shirt so he has an idea of the size of his buyout.

I do not check my electric meter anymore. The electric company installed a smart meter.

The only meter I worry about is my blood pressure.

Joe is probably still upset over his son and how that worked out, but he also is probably representative of a growing amount of former sudents and players that are getting sick of the "next year" rut.

August 30, 2012  09:13 AM ET

Not exactly sure I would call Joe's observations a "harsh critique" but I guess headlines are what gets people like me (who should be working) to jump on these threads...

But I beleave Joe knows alittle more about QB'in then that coach ND has do's.Heck I'd be willing to bet Joe could actually develope one of those guys into a pretty good QB before the ND coaching staff could.

Montana is right. Kelly's desperation will probably have him playing Gunnar Kiel this year - and soon.

It may be a cheap shot, but can you honestly say he's wrong???
