The date a season might be lost

08:20 AM ET 08.30 | Back in 1994-95, a labor deal was reached on Jan. 11, which salvaged a 48-game season that started a mere nine days later. The owners broke that time, giving up on a salary cap to save the season. Ten years later, the owners held firm and the players finally agreed to a deal in July that included a salary cap. This time around, neither side seems inclined to budge. ... Once the Winter Classic is lost, there's really no reason for the owners not to pull the plug on the rest of the season. They've shown before they're willing to use that threat as leverage, and as Bettman said last week, "We recovered well last time because we have the world's greatest fans."

And the soap opera continues.

this is insane. The Poison Dwarf, whether or not he is a puppet for the owners (which I doubt to a certain degree) has to come clean and say WHY they won't work through the 15, Sept. to get a new deal done.

Bettman said last week, "We recovered well last time because we have the world's greatest fans."

Translation: We have the world's biggest sheep as fans.

Maybe I'm not reading you right. The players will be locked out on the 15th because that is when the contract expires to me that is not a big deal but both sides will continue to work past that date to get a deal done. That is how I understand it.

What you are not reading right Whale is Spiny doesn't believe they will "continue to work past that date to get a deal done."

actually, what I was alluding to was that the players said they would gladly play even if a deal isn't done yet (9/15)
