Josh Johnson finished Thursday's preseason finale 9-14 for 125 yards and a 132.4 passer rating. Meanwhile, [Tolzien], Johnson's competition for the No. 3 role, had his roughest outing of the preseason. On one series he severely under-threw receiver Chris Owusu, who had two steps on his defender. ... Many NFL teams keep only two quarterbacks on their 53-man rosters. Harbaugh has said all offseason that he feels the 49ers have four starter-quality passers. But can they keep all four? "Yes, it's an option," Harbaugh said.

Mr. Ed has nothing to worry about. Keep 3, and the odd man out will be back working on the loading dock at UPS when you need him. Every team has a long list of inadequate backups to choose from.
Make sure he's got his cell phone, though. Have you ever tried to get a phone number for the local UPS depot? They won't give it to you.
