Nats could burden Strasburg camp with decision

08:16 AM ET 08.31 | Has Washington truly painted itself into a corner? Oh, there's a way out, if [Nationals GM] Mike Rizzo wants it. All Rizzo needs to say is this: "I still believe that shutting down Stephen Strasburg is the right thing to do -- the right thing for his long-term health, and for the organization's future. But clearly, circumstances have changed. Our team has a chance to do something special. And while I cannot advocate that Stephen continue to pitch, I will consider relenting if he and his agent, Scott Boras, ask me to revisit my decision." Bingo! Rizzo would be off the hook. And imagine the fallout once the onus shifted to Boras, who has said publicly that Strasburg wants to pitch, but is following the advice of Dr. Lewis Yocum.

I like the idea of painting Boras into the corner of supporting the Nats' decision. Right now he can play both sides. Deep, deep down Boras wants a shutdown because it offers the prospect of bigger paydays (read: commissions) in the future.
