Furcal likely lost for season

08:19 AM ET 08.31 | Even with the return of Yadier Molina, the Cardinals had a rough Thursday night at the ballpark. Perhaps their worst night of the summer hung an 8-1 loss on the Cardinals and probably subtracted their starting shortstop for the remainder of the season. When the night's highlight is employing an unearned run to interrupt a string of 28 scoreless frames, it's not a good thing. When a previously reliable rotation fails to muster a six-inning start for a fifth straight game, it's a worrisome thing. When shortstop Rafael Furcal is booked on an early-morning flight to St. Louis because he can no longer straighten his right elbow, it's a downright depressing thing.

OK, so you will not let us respond to the "head" in the above story. That is truly a FN classic.

The Cards roll the dice last year by signing a man who has trouble staying on the field because of injuries came up with sevens. But it looks like their luck is starting to go the other way with Funcal and his two year contract.

Tough loss......bad, bad stretch the last three games. Descalso can fill in very capably at SS though.

wise up:Every talks about the phillies being long in the toothTheir twlve bench players have 2 players of the twlve under age 30Aver age is 33. their starting five aver age is 30. The cardinals are getting longin the tooth also. The average age of the cardinals starting 8 is 31. their five starters, with Carpenter who will start if he returns is 33. I am surprised Beltran has not taken his yearly trip to the DL.

Descalso is a player, no doubt. Strikes me as the kind of guy who will bloom with regular playing time going forward. But instead of Descalso and Furcal, now you have Descalso and Schumaker. Great combo defensively, but lacking at the plate. Furcal will definately be missed.

this player has been a injuried-prone ever since he use to play for the dodgers,,,

He was barely hitting over .200 since June 1. Yes, he'll be missed but he wasn't contributing that much.
