Derek Dooley shedding micromanager label?

08:33 AM ET 09.01 | When Derek Dooley lost football games -- and he did a lot of that his first two years at Tennessee -- it wasn't the big things that made him appear to be in over his head as much as the little things. Could he coach? Nobody knew that for sure. How could anyone tell, just two years into running a program that required a lot of rebuilding and encountered so much bad luck? But a disastrous narrative had built around Dooley, one that threatened to derail his career every bit as much as his 11-14 record. He had become known around Tennessee as a micromanager, a 44-year-old determined to put his imprint on every part of the program. It was as though every day he showed up to work trying too hard to prove he deserved this job on merit, and not because he was Vince Dooley's son, while the empire burned all around him.And yet Friday night, in what might have been the biggest game of his tenure thus far, Dooley didn't look completely in control of his image. He showed up wearing a windbreaker at least two sizes too big, and he tripped on the Georgia Dome turf as he ran onto the field before kickoff. "That's the first thing I said to him after the game," his mother, Barbara Dooley, said. "Get a shirt that fits you." But while Derek Dooley has never looked worse on the sideline at Tennessee, his team has never looked better. In a game that should quiet the talk about his job security for at least a little while, the Volunteers had a pretty easy time beating N.C. State, 35-21.

Yeah. Hard to believe they are supposed to contend for a conference title.

Running back Bell was only consistent bright spot. Penalties were killing them.

What trophy is Dooley holding in the pic? He hasn't won squat at Tenn.
