Predators, Avalanche lose their rides

10:35 AM ET 09.01 | The Nashville Predators have lost their ride. A financially troubled charter air service axed its contract with the Predators hockey club, forcing the NHL team to make alternative travel plans just weeks before games begin, court records show. Earlier this week, a federal bankruptcy judge in Arizona ruled that Swift Air LLC could reject its Predators contract as part of a corporate reorganization plan. The Phoenix-based charter airline filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in late June but continues to operate. The company said in court papers that it no longer wants to serve nationwide customers, saying its reorganization plan "focuses on, among other things, servicing sports franchises that are only located in the eastern half of the country." Thus, Swift also rejected its contracts with the Colorado Avalanche NHL team and a pair of NBA teams, the Denver Nuggets and Phoenix Suns. Instead, it kept deals with the Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues NHL teams and Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks NBA franchises -- even though Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Louis are farther west than Nashville.

Eastern half of the country, you say? Well, I've got news for you. They don't need your stinking charter service over there. Those teams are so close to each other that they'd rather ride a nice bus or limo between venues. Faster than going to whatever obscure airport you're going to be operating from.

The airline will continue to fly the Hawks Blues and Bruins. How comfortable can they be flying on a bankrupt airline.

It shouldn't be a problem W2. The Leafs have been flying "morally bankrupt" Air Canada Jetz for a long time.
