08:06 AM ET 09.03 | On the upside, Brian Urlacher says his left knee is pain-free and he intends to play in Sunday's Bears opener. But in an interview on Fox-32's "The Final Word," the 34-year-old middle linebacker acknowledged his knee "just isn't the same anymore. It's never going to be the same." ... [Urlacher] said he will get in as good of shape as possible this week when he returns to practice at Halas Hall. The Pro Bowl performer has not practiced since July 31 and he underwent arthroscopic surgery on the knee on Aug. 12. The Bears return to the practice field Monday and expectations are Urlacher will be on the field. Urlacher was not asked about the Tribune's report that he sought an alternative treatment on his knee in Germany during the spring.

Urlacher will be good for one more hit to the knee and then he will be gone. As it is, he won't play the whole game on Sept. 9. He's got that warhorse thing and wants a SB - which ain't gonna happen this year anyway, Brian - but he may see the light when that knee is banged up again. Thing is, he means a lot to the defense because of his presence. Take that away and you've got about a mediocre defense. (McClellin isnt going to deliver this year anyway.)

Nothing a little stem cell work couldn't fix. Just ask Payton Manning. If it works out maybe a good place to invest the retirement fund. "The Mengele Sports Hero Repair Clinic." At least the clients can afford their bill.
