League business already at a standstill

08:25 AM ET 09.03 | Not only is there a case of gridlock in labor negotiations, but also among NHL front offices. While all eyes are on talks between commissioner Gary Bettman and union executive director Donald Fehr, league business has come to a standstill as the 30 GMs sit nervously waiting to find out the parameters of a new CBA. "It's eerily quiet," said a league executive last week. With training camps scheduled to open Sept. 21, there are a lot of teams with plenty of work to do, but with no CBA many GMs are finding trying to sign players or make trades virtually impossible because nobody is sure what is going to happen. ... "This is just like 2004: We got to July 15 and basically nothing was done," said a high-profile agent.

Well, he's a microcosm of the entire league. Can't make up his mind. Neither can they.

Maybe they're on to something guys and we should have their wives settle it.

We've all known about this deadline for years. And they start talking over coffee and donuts six weeks before the CBA expires. What have they had 3-4 meetings lasting a few hours each? I'm now officially an AHL fan. There's plenty of blame to go around-----------Bettman although he makes no decisions IMO, just a mouthpiece, The Fehrless one and his brother who is his assistant....................very professional set-up. All of these nitwits should be prohibited from traveling without adult supervision.

They should lock them in a room, nothing but coffee and doughnuts, until they bounce off the walls and decide something.
