Earthquakes shopping No. 1 pick
The San Jose Earthquakes have identified the player they will choose with the No. 1 overall pick but is still considering offers for the pick. The Earthquakes are looking for an impact veteran in exchange for the pick. Head coach Frank Yallop wasn't about to reveal his target with the No. 1 pick but it is a safe bet that the Quakes will take either Patrick Nyarko or Eric Avila if they keep the pick.

Well, if they couldn't afford to pay a #1 overall pick, they look awfully silly taking on the huge contract of Joe Cannon.
As for the Penna legislator, he didn't take a pass on approving funding because of soccer. He took a pass because the city was ignoring poor schools and a public works system that's in shambles. Why the heck would you publicly finance a sports stadium when your city is falling apart?
That's why I think putting a stadium in a city where 9/10ths of the people who can't afford to go to a game is foolish. This is why Miami shouldn't get a team. This is why Chester/Philly shouldn't get a team (the people who can afford it will have already spent money on the Phillies/Eagles). This is why NY should not get a second team. This is why DC needs to be VERY CAREFUL where they re-locate their team if they can't build the stadium in the area they want.
ANYWAY, back on topic. I thought Billy Bean was calling the shots for San Jose. He's making some rather interesting moves, considering that he likes to build within.

I live in Philly and I am glad they shot down the Chester stadium... It was a bad and rushed idea to put something out there for many reasons (first and foremost is that Chester, Pa is a wasteland that hinged its hopes on a casino and a stadium that no one would book events in when Philly has better and more accessible venues.) They need to build the stadium in South Philly and let them play in the Linc until then if they were to give Philly a franchise.
I do think Philly can afford to have a team. Eagles tix are a pretty hot item, but I don't think that would be their target demographic. Maybe the families who are looking for alternatives to the Phillies and Flyers is more appropriate. That is why we still have the Phantoms. If they put a hard worker on the field, I don't think support is an issue... which is why the Sixers catch so much flack.

&%#$@: I hope you enjoy driving the page hits up here causing them to consider more soccer coverage.
Also, you couldn't be more wrong about the west coast and soccer. In LA, it's the second biggest game behind basketball. There is a reason the NFL isn't here and always fails here.
Little Evil Gunner: 100% correct. :)
Back to the point; I hope Chicago makes a trade. There are 2 very good finishers in the draft and we desperately need one. Time to make me love you Hamlett and get Nyarko.

Marnsur4: or should I say @#&*? At least come up with a different slam when you troll these threads. Be a little creative.
I highly suggest to everyone to report these clowns at every opportunity. Hopefully we can enact some account suspensions on this nonsense.
