Time to bring Francona back to Boston

08:23 AM ET 09.04 | To what degree would the Red Sox consider righting what seems at this point to have been a wrong? The Red Sox should bring back Terry Francona. Never happen, people familiar with the Red Sox's thinking say. The owners are stubborn, and will never admit their mistake in parting with Francona. They also will try to lower the volume once they part with Bobby Valentine, not invite more drama. Sorry, but the owners need to admit their mistake, not just with the hiring of Valentine, but also with their unceremonious ouster of Francona. ... As for drama, the Red Sox would get it no matter whom they hired, whether it were a future Hall of Famer such as Tony La Russa or a first-timer such as Jason Varitek.

I wouldn't wish this on Francona.

That ship as sailed. They need to bring in someone fresh with no ties to the Red Sox at all.

That seems reasonable.

Hi Clem, I hope you're doing well.

I feel bad for who ever will get the job next because this isn't a team that is just a player or two away. Plus who in their right mind will want to deal with the Boston media everyday?

Terry won't return to Boston after the deplorable way he was treated by ownership on his way out.

What she said.

Hi Catwoman.

Terry took over a team that was an inning away from a world series last time. This time it wouldn't be so easy.

Morning Mongo.

It's still a desirable job. A passionate fan base that fills the park every night, and a ownership that will spend the money to give you a chance to win. Plus Valentine has taken all the pressure away from the next manage, which I believe was by design

QUOTE(#9):

Someone new is needed, even if a former player. I think Rice, Lynn, or Evans. Someone without experience that can start new. Francona is not the answer, nor is Torre for NY.

I can't see Rice ever giving up his cushy job with NESN and Lynn and Evans are probably enjoying life and have been away from baseball to long to want to come back.

It takes a special guy to want to go from player to manager now with the saleries they're making.

September 4, 2012  08:47 AM ET

What was always great about Torre and Francona was not only how they managed but they always were the calm amid the storm that is the American League East. Us fans can make for a crazy environment and what a team needs in this neck of the woods are guys that can handle not only the team but the fans and the media.

I think time will tell on a lot of your points because there is no way to tell what will happen going forward. It's going to take a guy with awefully thick skin to put up with the media and fans that will boo you a week into the season. Not everyone can thrive under those conditions.
