08:01 AM ET 09.05 | The headline reads that in Miami on Tuesday, David Garrard had been released and Artis Hicks had been placed on injured reserve. Other than speak to the utter waste of time this year's free agency period brought the Dolphins it suggests the Dolphins have some issues they still need to address. ... The Dolphins have an open roster spot. And for the record, the Dolphins this offseason signed Chad Johnson, Eric Steinbach, David Garrard, Gary Guyton, Hicks, Tyrell Johnson, Legedu Naanee, Richard Marshall and Jamaal Westerman as free agents. Guyton, Tyrell Johnson, Chad Johnson, Garrard and Westerman were cut. Hicks went on IR. Marshall is a starter. Naanee is on the team.

Phearless Philben again. He needs to haul his GM out on the practice field and use him for a tackling dummy.
Of course, remember that yesterday's Fish thread was about how David Garrard was going to be the backup and Moore would be cut. That was also a Miami Herald story.

They've got Skelton, and, if nothing else, Kolb is a proven clipboard holder.
Pats released Brian Hoyer. He's never impressed me, but then again, neither has Sage.

Sage to me is the itinerant back up QB extraordinaire. The marquee loser-winner. And, to be frank, I really don't get what accounts for his longevity or that of just about all the other clipboard holders in the league. Most of them either don't or can't do squat when and if they get into the game.

It's funny, that's the way I saw Matt Cassel when he backed up Brady. One game, they put him in at halftime when they were up 49-7 against Miami, and he stunk so bad they put Brady back in for the 4th quarter. But, when Brady went down and it really mattered, he came through that one year.
