McHale takes shot at 'clowns' in the NBA

08:07 AM ET 09.05 | Kevin McHale is looking for a few good men, a theme he hit hard recently when asked about his own evolution as a coach. "We've got to get these guys willing to fight for each other and go out there and fight for the win. Whatever it takes to make that happen, they'll do it. Again, that is not the sexy, 'Oh you're in the NBA, you get paid.' That's why half these clowns in this league don't win anything. They don't realize that it comes down to how hard you're willing to fight for each other. It's your team. How hard are you willing to fight for it? ... Because the answer is: Whatever it takes. When you have a team that says, 'I'll do whatever it takes to win,' you're moving in the right direction."

He has a lot of targets to hit........

The real question is which direction does he have the Rockets moving? Hopefully it's not the same direction he took the T Wolves...

I wonder if he was talking about himself and the Rockets with that quote. He's going to be with the half who are the clowns of the NBA.

Truer words have never been spoke... The last such team effort was the Detroit Championship team...

The league needs to get rid of all the GM clowns too. Like that guy who ran the T-Wolves into the ground. I wonder what ever happened to him?

Yep... you can have all the guys in the world that want to fight for each other.

If you ain't good enough - it doesn't matter.

I agree with McHale, most guys are just interested in the money and image, not what really counts. It's the brainwash theory, if your watching too much television and notice all the hype surrounding music video, entertainment, and sports; there's a glamour surrounding those business that will get your attention directed in the pursuit of the "bling" life. Taking your concentration away from what the real stake in life should be about "taking care of business."

HImself? McHale's a HOFer that contributed to the success of the three titles the '80s Boston Celtics won.

Funny that two of those titles came against the very team he now coaches. Maybe he should use that as his motivator. "Hey guys, get some wins or I'll kick your **** just like before"

Yeah I guess it is when you had to learn it from Larry Legend for calling you and your teammates out for being clowns. Changed a series didn't it Kevin? You lerned from it didn't you Kevin? So go tell'em Kev. You can certainly relate!

This sounds like McHale knows the Rockets are rebuilding and will have a lot of young guys on the team this year. So, he's trying to get them fired up coming into camp, which is good.

I don't expect much from Houston this year, but it will be interesting to see which of the newer players responds to this.

Royce White will respond well

All of the clowns that i know DO NOT make that much money. Plus its not easy driving around in a clown car that burns oil and can't find second gear.

You are DAMN right, Kevin.

Too bad there aren't more players like Bird, Kevin, and The Chief anymore.

I'm no McHale fan, but he hit this one spot-on.
