Braves keeping watch over two ailing catchers

08:09 AM ET 09.05 | At the very least, Brian McCann is on the mend physically, but his playing time bears watching. As the Braves approach the final weeks of the regular season, manager Fredi Gonzalez has indicated that backup catcher David Ross could see more playing time if [McCann] continues to struggle and be bothered by a sore right shoulder. But the Braves are also going to have to keep an eye on Ross, who has been dealing with a sore muscle in his left side since taking an awkward swing in San Diego last week. McCann is expected to return to the lineup on Wednesday for the first time since receiving a second cortisone injection in the shoulder on Saturday. Despite the muscle issue, Ross was able to produce a memorable moment on Monday.

This is just another stupid article really about nothing. If both catchers are ailing then you bring up someone from Triple A to catch until one of them can play.

I tthink they need to baby McCann because they need him in the playoffs, and gamble that Ross can play through it. If McCann is healthy, Ross won't leave the bench in October.

Atlanta may collapse just like they did last year. Uggla is benched, McCann has been injured for much longer than the Braves will admit, their pitching staff is being held together by band-aids and you have to wonder when Chipper will get injured. It will take a lot in the final month for Atlanta to hang on. I wish them luck though. Chipper deserves one more shot before he retires.

would be nice for chipper jones to be able to go farther this time not only a playoff berth but make it until the second round in the playoffs at least,,,
