No one trusts anyone in Boston

08:11 AM ET 09.05 | In a matter of years, the Red Sox have come unglued. Today, of course, the entire system is broken. Red Sox players do not trust owner John Henry, chairman Tom Werner and president Larry Lucchino. They see the owners' box as a den of lies, leaks and resentment, the place where Lucchino hatched the idea to hire Bobby Valentine as manager. ... In late July, a gang of players sent a text message to ownership calling for a meeting to discuss Valentine's foibles. Henry and Lucchino granted them an audience July 27 on an off-day in New York. Unlike previous roundtables, the manager was not present. Players grumbled, vented and aired their grievances. Sources present at the meeting said the complaints left Henry and Lucchino aghast.

Kick Lucchino to the curb and that will be remedied.

I can't believe that ownership didn't have a clue as to the dysfunction emanating from the Red Sox clubhouse before that meeting in late July with the players.

I can't believe that either. I commented before the season started that hiring Bobby V would be a disaster. Unfortunately I underestimated the scope of the problem.

So the Orioles are now tied for 1st, the Rays and A's are playing great ball and again there's another Red Sox thread.

The players are part of the problem. They seem to think they have a say in how the team is run. They need to spend less time thinking about that and more time fixing their crappy performance on field.

And how about those Yankmees? 10 game lead - poof! It's going to be a fun run to October.

I understand it as well but I'd like to see the other teams get their due because they are good for baseball right now. I really have to give the Orioles credit because I really expected them to fade but they do look tough. I hope their fans take notice and fill the seats.

But that would be a positive story. The media wants drama and discord. It's much easier to write about bad things than good ones.

Is there a provision in MLB for a team to forfeit their remaining games, call it a season, and all go home?
Maybe the BoSox need new owners?

Stick a fork in the Yankees, they're done. Journeyman starters no ever heard of, an offense that can't score runs, fading former stars ( Jones, Ichiro ), current stars who are stinking up the place ( Granderson), a catcher who can't hit his body weight ( Martin ), a pitching staff that's melted down ( Freddy Garcia in the biggest game of the year?) and 3 humongous contracts that will send them straight to the bottom in coming years ( A-Rod, Teixeira) and you have the recipe for a Titanic-size sinking of this franchise.
