08:12 AM ET 09.05 | At least for the time being, this would stand as bad news in Boston. Amid the [Red Sox's] continuing controversy and with his own team bound for Fenway Park later this week, John Farrell said Tuesday he was "unequivocally" committed to the Toronto Blue Jays and revealed there is one season remaining on his contract as manager. Farrell's comments come with his name continually arising in chatter about potential replacements for Bobby Valentine. ... With the Blue Jays scheduled to open a three-game set in Boston this weekend, another bout of speculation is possible, and Farrell made his strongest statements on the matter to this point. "My focus is clearly here with the Blue Jays, I'm under contract obviously," he said.

I don't understand the Boston media's fascination with Farrell.

Another stupid article, what is Farrell suppose to say and why is the Boston writers trying to put him there in 13 knowing he is under contract for next season, and can only be thee if he is fired.

Perhaps Farrell can get himself fired by behaving like George costanza.

If he doesn't renew his deal this winter, might as well cut him loose now and move on. No point in another season of will he or won't he.

Maybe the Sox should consider promoting the PawSox manager to take over Valentine's job next season.
He's been successful with a team that has changed roster all season long; he knows the young guys in the Sox system who will apparently be the core of the team in the years ahead, and he seems to know how to deal with these younger players, something that Valentine was too old to understand.

Good idea. He also probably knows the organization and how to function in it.

Always liked John Farrell when he was in the Cleveland organization. A class act. He's got The Jays headed in the right direction. I hope he stays the course.

wiseup:Toronto has plenty of offense. They need to concentrate on getting some competetive pitching. Both starters and bullpen needs attention. Get Ferrellsome pitching, to go with the offense. If this happens, then next year Ferrel can be re evaluated.

Last place? *That's* a good direction... :-P
Boston doesn't need Farrell as manager. They need him - or someone like him - as pitching coach.
