New roadblock to labor talks

08:22 AM ET 09.05 | As negotiations head almost nowhere, so, too, are the hopes of an NHL season starting on time. The NHL has rejected the NHLPA's request to convene to discuss "non-core" economic issues in the wake of the breakdown of talks last Friday. "We actually don't think that meeting on the other issues while the main economic issues remain uncertain would be particularly constructive or productive in terms of resolving those issues," deputy commissioner Bill Daly wrote in an email to The Post. ... The Post has learned the NHL proposals feature a "management rights" clause under which the league would assume unilateral power over issues including realignment, scheduling and playoff format.

have to be careful here, as it IS the NYPOST
but the "management rights" thingy sounds a bit orwellian...but not terrible. But in the hands of a real commissioner, not this 2nd rate twit

".... the NHL proposals feature a "management rights" clause ...."

I thing "we, the people," fans of the NHL, need to form a "fan's rights" group for, among other things, support and therapy for fan abuse and hockey withdrawal symptoms.

I doubt either you or Spiny are going to get Christmas cards from him this year!

I think his cure for the Arizona economic woes would be to put a team in Tucson to start a "desert rivalry".

I never thought someone of such a diminutive stature could be considered a road block

September 5, 2012  10:43 AM ET

But he is a little bit taller than an average roadblock ;-)

Offer the players this: Bettmann resigns, and they get 45%. Deal done.
