08:03 AM ET 09.06 | Not long ago, a Nebraska youngster was told he couldn't wear a pro-Michigan shirt, and now we have this. [Some] students in Greeley, Colo., are upset over an anti-gang policy that prohibits them from wearing Peyton Manning's No. 18 jersey. ... "They told me I couldn't wear 18 anymore because it's a gang number and I had to take it off," said Konnor Vanatta during an interview with FOX31 Denver on Tuesday. Vanatta, a third grader in the Weld County School System, was disappointed to learn that the number 18 is considered to represent gang affiliations and is not allowed on clothing inside county classrooms. "I'm pretty upset the schools have come down to this and I think they need to start paying attention to the education the children are getting rather than what they're wearing," added Pam Vanatta, the student's mother.

But how about them Cowboys!

September 6, 2012  08:10 AM ET

So, can they still wear Tebow jerseys? Even though he's now on Gang Green? And even though he's actually in Jersey?

Nothing in my mind is associated more strongly with gang violence, drug dealing and murder than Peyton Manning.

I've heard gangs were a problem in Colorado, but damn....

I thought schools were supposed to be about education. How can you respect a school system that does something which is obviously so stupid?

C'mon, a football team can be a source of civic pride. It unites people across all boundaries, ethnic, racial, and economic. Fandom provides a commonality that we can all cheer for. Our teams provide a real example of diversity at work.

As a little boy from Brooklyn, I grew up cheering Duke Snider, Roy Campanella, Sandy Koufax and Jackie Robinson. Now, our broken political system is more and more dividing us along racial and ethnic lines to further the selfish ends of those in Washington. And, it seems, our educational system is playing right into their hands. I'm not surprised.

I've got to get up early, so I didn't even start watching the game. The first thing I did when I came downstairs this morning was log on and check the score. I was smiling all the way to work.

You know you're from a white town when Football Jerseys are gang considered apparel.

September 6, 2012  08:51 AM ET

Give them all uniforms and kill the problem of (who's wearing what) at the root. When everybody's dressed the same then there's no issue of who's affiliated with what gang, the have and have nots or why Sally's blouse is cut so low. That along with all of this "gender confusion" with boys wanting to dress like girls and vice versa, tee shirts with questionable sayings, etc., etc.

All of this is cancelled out by putting them all in the same looking clothes so the focus can be redirected off of fashion and more on trying to learn something. With all of the other distractions that teenagers have, sex, alcohol etc. the issue of who's wearing should not be one of them.

Indeed!, That school board is just a little paranoid / power drunk to make a rule like that...

My sentiments, exactly.

I remember a day at work where we'd been doing formal system demos for the customer, the US Air Force. After they left the room, one guy I worked with said, "Y'know, I'm glad we don't have to wear uniforms."

I looked around, and every one of us was wearing a white shirt, a red tie, grey slacks and a blue blazer.

I'm going to laugh when Peyton Manning absolutely shreds that school board's secondary.

What's next? Banning the number 18 from multiplication tables?

If there wasn't ethnic or racial strife, the media wouldn't know what to do with itself.

Congrats Otis.......your Boys look way more impressive than the Blue. Our secondary absolutely sucked and yours look damn good, although both will get better, at least hopefully my Giants. Come game two we better have our acts together. Tony Romo was very impressive except for the interception but otherwise he did great!
