Something more to Wainwright's struggles?

08:13 AM ET 09.07 | Back-to-back starts does not a season make, but Adam Wainwright has trended down over the past two starts -- allowing 17 hits in a total of 7.2 innings. To hear Wainwright and the Cardinals explain it, most of the problem is attributable to an inconsistent arm slot on his pitches. He isn't getting the proper leverage on his pitches, and that affects movement and the ability to locate. So we're talking about fundamentals, mechanics. That's a legitimate explanation. But is that the entire explanation? Is there more to it? After missing all of 2011 because of Tommy John surgery, Wainwright has pitched 173.2 innings this season. ... [I] think it's fair to say that Wainwright's next start, at San Diego next week, will draw increased scrutiny.

Goes to show I truely believe they rush these guys back too soon after that "Tommy John" surgery...I know they have perfected the surgery....but that doesn't mean your coming back as the same pitcher you were before the surgery...

Maybe they need to think about shutting him down for the rest of the season because their only chance of making the playoffs is the Wild Card.

I think given the money these guys make, it is very true that they rush them back as soon as possible. I also think Carpenter being hurt has affected their use of Wainwright. If the other ace had been around all year, they may have been more inclined to scale back Adam's innings over the course of the season.

Even tho they can do an amazing job with the Tommy John surgery a majority of the guys never come back to be as good as they where befor the injury, He will always have scare tissue that will continue to give him stiffness and soreness in the arm.

Everyone should be wary of scare tissue. Frightening stuff.

Al I have never heard of a baseball player playing the game to lose, because none of them need the money.
