The most underrated player in baseball

08:17 AM ET 09.07 | There are the usual suspects in a case such as this, including Alex Gordon, Adrian Beltre, Hiroki Kuroda and Shane Victorino, but what about Angel Pagan? He's currently a vital cog on a first place team, and yet his performance has gone mostly overlooked. He's one of the better available pieces in the often disparaged class of 2013 free agents. ... He's a really good player on a winning team who has spent his entire career playing in front of large audiences, and yet, he's still off most people's radar. In terms of production in environments where that should garner you some recognition, there is perhaps no player in baseball more underrated than [Pagan].

Angel has all the skills, but hits a dead zone when he's running the bases, and fielding his position, he just not a smart ballplayer!

The biggest reason Pagan doesn't get must notice is the fact that he has been a platoon player most of his baseball career. One good year for the Giants doesn't make you hall of fame material, but does help with free agency approaching.

He was horrible in NY with the Mets. I wonder what could be responsible for his drastic improvement? Hmmmm... he does play in the Bay Area....

Pagan had a very good season (for what he is) in 2010. He dipped a little last year with injuries, but so far 2012 looks identical to his 2010 season. He is by no means a star, but he would be one of those players that puts an already good team over the top.

Thanks again, Sarge.
Pagan has been great for us this year. Hope he sticks around. I like his edge as well.

This year hitting .284/.336 with 8 HR in 562 Plate appearances. Career UZR 150 is 3.4 or a smidgen above average--looks to be best in right field. This is pretty much what mediocrity looks like. I think he is getting precisely the amount of attention he deserves.

The problem about calling anyone the most underrated player in baseball is that it can be said so many times, the player in question actually becomes overrated. Joe Rudi of the champion Oakland A's in the 1970s was called underrated so many times by the media that it should've been sewn on his uniform. He was a solid ballplayer but the accolade became tiresome.
