08:58 AM ET 09.09 | A lot of NFL front office men are buzzing about Dominique Davis. The quarterback from East Carolina went undrafted and had only one team interested in giving him a look-see. He signed with the Falcons and has been outstanding. Davis' tools are excellent, but he still is unrefined. The thinking in Atlanta is he can develop as a No. 2 quarterback and maybe more. Interesting coincidence: Davis was a transfer from Boston College. As a freshman there, he worked with upperclassman Matt Ryan.

Ah, how intriguing. A story about an drafted QB who might, maybe someday, turn into a serviceable backup. I'm blown away.

Talk him up this year. Play him a lot in pre-season next year. Then trade him to Arizona. It's been done before.

I thought the Cards like old done-for QBs. They don't have patience for a fresh scrubbed newbie.

I remember another Atlanta backup QB who went to another team and had a little success....

Back-up QB: Everyone loves them until they have to play. Cash the paycheck, hold the clipboard, and pray Ryan stays healthy.

I don't think they hold clipboards any more. The rest of your statement is right on.
