08:11 AM ET 09.10 | Mark Teixeira comes out of the weekend facing a grim reality. [Teixeira] will have another MRI on his strained left calf Monday in New York. The results will go a long way in determining when - or if -- the first baseman will be back on the field this season. Teixeira reinjured his calf while racing to first -- ultimately sliding into the base -- in an attempt to beat out a ground ball on the final play of Saturday night's game, the same play umpire Jerry Meals botched to cost the Yankees a chance at a victory. "I thought I could play on it at 80% or whatever it was," Teixeira said. "I couldn't, so when I come back next time -- whether it's two days or a week, whatever it's going to be, I don't know how long it's going to be."

Teixeira and the word "racing", should never be used in the same sentence.

The last 40 years of Yankee baseball was a dream just like the "Bob Newhart Show" ..so its really 1970 and the Yankees really suck....

If Teixeira runs through the base as they teach everyone in little league that play isn't close.

It wasn't close. No one ever said it was. He was safe, the ump said out and that is that. A bad call for whatever reason.

Under normal conditions, you would be correct. It is slightly faster to run through the base. Now, if the player has a bad leg and it "pops" or gives out near the base, then it would be faster to head first slide than to pull up and limp to the base.
The ump blew it. Most likely because the head first slide took him by surprise and he did not have the usual foot/ sound of ball hitting glove decision to make. It was never a close call.

I don't remember 1979-1993 being all that much of a dream unless we're talking nightmares. They were the laughing stock of baseball. New manager every few months, Steinbrenner getting killed on Sienfeld, giving up good young talent for has beens.

Your right it wasn't. In another interview he mentioned he thought he had less of a chance of injuring it diving for the bag than running through it. Didn't seem to help.

Most amusing part was Teixeira's post game comment about the umps wanting to get out of there, etc. Really? Has the fine been announced yet?

wiseup: umpires are human like everyone else. I didn't see the play, but whining over one call, really. I am sure the yankees have had a bad call or two go the yankees way. Some how they even out. To say a bad call turns the outcome of te game, yes, to a point. however texera hit the ball in dp lane, and i'm sure there were some blown opportunity to score . too bad if Texeira is hurt and gone for year. You hate to see anybody hurt.

Terrible call.....why would Tex deserve a fine? The media asked a question and he answered it honestly.
