Ortiz inching toward return to Boston

08:12 AM ET 09.10 | Even a veteran can turn to the future, which is where David Ortiz, with his injured right heel still encased in a protective boot, looks these days. [The designated hitter's] focus has shifted to regaining his health in order to be an offensive force again next season. More than ever, it seems he will remain with the Red Sox, even though he surely will keep seeking a multiyear deal if he doesn't get one from the Sox before re-entering the free agent market in two months. ... [Ortiz] isn't about to rush back to the lineup merely for the sake of a potential Fenway Park curtain call or to pad his already impressive .318 average, 23 homers and .611 slugging percentage.

Polls on FN now? Did they fix the lag while they were at it?

Um, I guess "no" is the correct answer.

BTW, if you ever have a chance to go through a major earthquake, kindly decline. I was in Costa Rica for the 7.6 and it SUCKED.

One of the few things that works in the Red Sox favor in regard to re-signing Ortiz is that most other teams are getting away from having a pure DH on the roster. If he does come back to the Sox I don't see him having a big year since it doesn't look like he's going to have much protection in the line up so he'll get pitched around a lot.

I'm really surprised this article came from the Boston Hearald.

The quake moved our hotel a foot or 2, maybe more, back and forth for about 30 seconds. You couldn't stand during the event but the builders have the hotel itself on movable slabs so there wasn't much damage.

Once we got outside, they moved us down to the beach, then the tsunami warning came out at which point they moved us to higher ground. Fortunately, the warning was called due to the strength of the earthquake and not the fact they thought there was going to be one.

There were over 1000 aftershocks, but we only felt a few, the one at 4am is an interesting way to wake up though.
