NHLPA seeks to block lockout in Quebec

08:21 AM ET 09.10 | The NHL Players' Association has an out-of-the-box idea. [The NHLPA] is hoping that Quebec's labour laws will keep members of the Montreal Canadiens from being locked out by the league. The team's players have hired Montreal-based lawyer Michael Cohen, who sent a cease and desist letter to the Habs owners and the NHL on Friday. They're claiming it would be unlawful for the players to be locked out ... because the NHLPA isn't certified by the Quebec Labour Board. Under Quebec law, a union must have that certification for an employer to enact a lockout, according to the NHLPA. Bill Daly, the NHL's deputy commissioner, referred to the matter as a "distraction" that was "not unexpected."

Sounds good to me. The Canadiens can't be locked out but the other 29 teams can? I wonder when the first game will be up there. Maybe they can play the non-union teams. It certainly is an "out of the box" idea. Will this accomplish anything? I can't think of anything but some sports articles in the paper maybe.

First game will be with some KHL team...providing the flight can take off in Russia and land safety in Quebec....Vegas odds would be against that fight being successful..........as previously stated, what a dumb idea........put the energy towards getting the season started on time........

Wish they would devote their energy to working out a deal instead of engaging in shenanigans.

Sounds like Quebec is backing the players :)

Move the Coyotes to Quebec and ..... it's "Game On!!" I'll watch that provincial rivalry blossom while the rest of the league is trying to figure out what to do.
