08:10 AM ET 09.11 | One of the men most associated with New York Knicks basketball seems to be moving farther away from a job on Broadway. Patrick Ewing, who for years has been passed over for coaching positions with the Knicks, recently turned down an opportunity to become head coach of the club's D-League team, the Daily News has learned. Although Ewing is out of work after not being retained by the Orlando Magic, the former Knicks great, who interviewed for the Charlotte Bobcats head coach position in June, would prefer to work in the NBA. Ewing has previously worked as an assistant coach with the Wizards, Rockets and Magic but has never been offered a job with the Knicks despite numerous openings over the years.

Ewing definitely doesn't need the money but everyone knows he's been inching to be a head coach and after all these years as an assistant probably feels coaching the D-League is a step back plus no guarantee to get him closer to a HC job.

There's a reason this fraanchise is a mess. Something is terribly wrong when there's a job for Isiah Thomas, but not Patrick Ewing.

I do agree with you Dolan is not in touch with realuty. But you also have to question Ewing's ego. Why should the Knicks hire someone both Jordan and Portland don't want. It aint like Ewing was stellar with the fans or did anything heroic for Knicks. As a team leader he was getting head on the road in Atlanta.. he said it himself. Nope he doesn't deserve to head coach of the Knicks. He will blow it in Atlanta...

He feels he's entitled just because... that's the epidemic that's wrecking this nation. Whatever happened to working hard... man there's lots of great players out there that arent' head coaches or crying out there like sombody owes them something... his attitude alone proves he's not mentally tough or ready to handle head coaching duties of NEW YORK CITY!

How many coaches have to do that?? And also, how many coaches in the D-League get a shot in the NBA? Its pretty much a rhetorical question.....the D-League is NOT the breeding ground for NBA coaches. Its being an NBA asst for years, which he has done....its something else to it, dont know what but I dont blame him
