Road woes may bury Cards' Garcia

08:17 AM ET 09.11 | Down the stretch, Jaime Garcia's numbers are becoming harder to ignore for the Cardinals, who turned a 2-0 second-inning lead Monday into an 11-3 loss. Monday represented the 12th consecutive road game in which the defending World Series champion failed to receive a quality start -- at least six innings pitched with no more than three earned runs allowed. [Mike Matheny] remained noncommittal about what may happen Saturday against the Los Angeles Dodgers -- Garcia's next scheduled start. ... The Cardinals suddenly grope for a stopper within their shifting rotation. Garcia's unsightly road splits contrast with impressive numbers at home. The rotation's current alignment projects his next three outings fall away from Busch Stadium.

With 20 or so games left the Cards are running out of time and they are probably going to have to start one of their youngsters from Triple A to take Garcia place in the rotation.

The Cards are still obviously in the WC picture, but they seem to be dead team walking right now. They've had a nice stretch against sub-.500 teams and they have a losing record over that span.

Garcia has always pitched like crap on the road - this is nothing new so why worry about it now? Shouldn't they have worried about it BEFORE they signed him to that "extension"?

Agree. I would pitch him at Busch and leave him out of the road games the rest of the way. Start Miller, start Lynn, start Kelly.....it's not going to be any worse.

Till this weekend, then the Dodgers will take control of the 2nd WC.

It's that time of the Year when the Pitchers start to break down, maybe a drop of a day or two in the rotation may help?
