08:06 AM ET 09.12 | Tyreke Evans recently hit Sacramento's practice gym at 4 a.m. to work on his shooting. Kings officials weren't surprised. Evans has spent much of the offseason in the gym -- part of his plan to regain the form he showed his first season in the NBA when he was named Rookie of the Year. "I've been receiving a lot of criticism about not being healthy and not playing like I did my rookie year," Evans said. "I just want to come back this year and show people I'm still here and that I haven't lost a step." After averaging 20.1 points, 5.8 assists and 5.3 rebounds as a rookie, Evans' production has dropped each of the past two seasons. ... This season will be an important one for Evans. The Kings have yet to offer him a contract extension.

QUOTE(#1):

This kid should have stepped up after his rookie year and say this is my team and than take charge from there. He should have followed the footsteps of DRose and KD.

Here's the problem: he's not nearly as good as D-Rose and KD.

Have an idea:

All players should have contract years EVERY year.
This way, as fans, we get to see better games.

The Kings are just a terribly run/managed franchise. That is the biggest reason for this guy's shortcomings. They don't have much talent and the talent they do have, just doesn't fit together. That's not Evans fault.

With that said, he isn't a number one guy; he could be a number 3 guy on a contender.
