Cuban takes a shot at Lakers

08:07 AM ET 09.12 | Mark Cuban isn't ready to crown the Lakers, or any other team, as NBA kings just yet -- even after acquiring two potential Hall of Famers in Steve Nash and Dwight Howard. However, the Dallas Mavericks owner cited recent history as proof that offseason splashes don't guarantee postseason celebrations. "The Lakers have done this before. Gary Payton and Karl Malone and Kobe and Shaq were all together, and it didn't work," Cuban said Monday, referring to the 2003-04 Lakers, who lost in the Finals, when introducing his team's acquisitions to the media and season-ticket holders. "It takes great chemistry. ... It takes guys wanting to be there. I don't know if all their guys want to be there."

Cuban need to take a look at his own mistakes. Look at the Knicks, Clippers, Minnesota, and Brooklyn, also Boston, if Cuban was a owner that respected his players and allowed them to compete; then players such as Chandler, Butler, Barrera, Terry, Kidd, and one other; can't remember his name, will still be in Dallas and possibly have won another championship. Instead, Cuban takes the opportunity to compare his current team to what the Lakers did a few years ago (Payton, Malone) and suggest the the current Dallas team can compete with the current Lakers team (Howard, Nash, Gasol, Kobe), he must be crazy!

QUOTE(#14):

in all fairness, the Lakers really do not have to try hard to get free agents to play there.... Big market, the allure of Kareem, Kobe, Magic being around and the sunshine.... The only troubling part is most opposing GM's for what ever reason have made lopsided trades w/ the Lakers. Granted my C's made out in the summer of '07. But the Lakers are able to retool on a consistent basis. Guys like Cuban who vent to the media are just envious. Is it an even playing field? it remains to be seen. I'm just glad the C's have been able to stay relevent for the last 5 yrs.... It takes a lot of work, just seems it's less work for the Lakers.

+1 Don't have to like it or claim that there is a conspiracy ... it is what it is. Face it "I wish they all could be caifornia girls." B-ballers don't have to wish ... just sign with the Lakers.
